The last couple of months have been a very exciting and productive time for Carlos.  Carlos remains in Miami; however, with a goal to move back to the Denver area in June.  The first major progress check from his December surgery on his right arm will be in May and hopefully after that, he will have found a house in Denver and begin the process to get back.  Carlos has been working out five days a week and making tremendous strides daily.  Along with his regular PT/OT and once a week workouts with the Miami Project, Carlos began working out at I Am Able.  I Am Able is an adaptive gym where the owner has a similar injury to Carlos.  The workouts at I Am Able have been different than his others and Carlos has excelled and made great progress with his strength and mobility.  

In late March, the Colorado Peace Officers Association held their 49th Annual Police Ski Race, which raises money for fallen or injured First Responders.  This year they asked if they could sponsor Carlos as their primary beneficiary.  Three of Carlos’ friends traveled to Vail and represented the HHLM family, along with 50 handmade beanies made by a friend of Carlos’ who worked tirelessly to get them made.  Through merchandise sales, raffle tickets, and donations, over $4,000 was raised for Carlos and the family.

This past weekend, one of Carlos’ mentors and best friends retired from ATF.  He had a retirement party and charged everybody $45 a plate.  What nobody knew was that he paid for his own retirement party and the money people paid went to Carlos and the family, a total of $6,500.

The money is appreciated and will be put to good use, but the more important thing is the love and the spirit of all the donations.  Carlos uses that love daily as motivation to keep pushing forward and to fight for every inch, every day!

Carlos continues to have a warrior mindset and a strong resolve.  He strives to get stronger each and every day.  Carlos continues to be supported daily by his family and his friends.  Please continue to send prayers and well wishes and do not forget, Carlos is built different and can accomplish anything he sets his mind to.
