November 24, 2023, Carlos Thanksgiving Update
In mid-October, Carlos moved from inpatient at Christine Lynn Rehab Facility on the University of Miami hospital campus to a residence in Miami that he has lived at with his family while he continues his outpatient PT/OT on a weekly basis. Along with PT/OT, Carlos recently went through the initial assessment process with the Miami Project and qualified for a trial involving nerve transplants which are geared to improve functionality in his hands and arms. Carlos is currently scheduled to have the nerve transplant surgeries on November 29th and 30th, one arm each day. Following a two-week recovery period, Carlos will receive another assessment with the Miami Project to determine next steps.
Carlos spent Thanksgiving in Miami, surrounded by family, friends, and lots of football. Carlos remains determined and steadfast in his approach to getting better each and every day. Carlos’ family and close friends continue to rotate in and out of Miami assisting in Carlos’ day to day care and routine. It is anticipated that Carlos will remain in Miami for next several months at least to continue his rehab and work with the Miami Project.
Carlos is appreciative and humbled by the continued support and well wishes that come in daily from around the country, as well as ATF as a whole.
